One person who won’t be at the Timber Frame Association’s conference this week is the veteran building safety campaigner Sam Webb.

The UKTFA had invited Webb to be a keynote speaker on the recommendation of Angela Brady, but Boots can only presume RIBA Journal isn’t essential reading at 66 Portland Place. The RIBA president certainly seems to have skipped Webb’s article last year, which went under the headline “Smouldering Issue” and expressed his doubt about the UKTFA’s claims for the safety of timber frame construction. Suffice to say, when the association read it, his invitation was withdrawn.
