BIG wins competition for new Hamburg State Opera building

New 45,000 sq m venue on Baakenhöft peninsula will replace 1950s building

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has been picked to design the new home of the Hamburg State Opera.

The project, which will be located on the Baakenhöft peninsula in HafenCity, will also house the Hamburg Ballet, providing production and performance facilities, as well as new public spaces on the waterfront.
