It might only be middle-aged in architectural terms (Oscar Niemeyer is still soldiering on at the age of 104), but turning 70 is a significant landmark in anyone’s life.

With this in mind BD would like to wish a very happy birthday to Mike Davies, an architect held in high esteem by those who know him - including his oldest colleague Richard Rogers.

To mark the occasion, Davies’ fellow workers at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners emulated his idiosyncratic approach to clothing - dressing head to toe in red.

And now BD’s resident poet has written this verse in honour of the occasion:

Many happy red turns Mike D,
For making it to seventy,
We’ll dance on the Dome Millennium,
In crimson, scarlet and vermillion.
