Scheme developed with Cambridge University
A masterplan by LDA Design for a city centre campus in Cambridge has been OK’d by Cambridge University.
Under the plan, existing buildings will be re-modelled and new buildings built to provide accommodation for academic departments and central facilities.
The so-called New Museums site stands in a conservation area between Pembroke and Corpus Christi colleges and houses many university facilities including the lab where Watson and Crick discovered the structure of DNA.
Key aims of the masterplan include conserving the existing historic buildings, establishing new public spaces, improving links and enhancing biodiversity.
The masterplan will be implemented in a number of phases, with the first being prepared by Bennetts Associates and is supported by LDA Design as masterplan advisors and landscape architects. Phase two will be submitted for planning later this spring.
