The construction industry has been ranked 10th out of 11 in a league table of employment sectors for mothers returning to work.

The survey, by the Training & Development Agency for Schools, found that only 29% of women who returned to work in the built environment professions after maternity leave felt they were “treated like an equal”, and more than 90% said they did not have sufficient opportunities to develop their careers. Teaching came top of the table, while the catering, leisure and retail industries were at the very bottom.
