The founder of Digbeth-based Minesh Patel Architects invites us to his local art gallery - which was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize the year Peckham Library won

I was 11 when the gallery opened in my home town of Walsall in 2000.

It was seven years later, when it popped up during a first-year lecture on phenomenology, that I began to realise how significant a building it was.
