The RIBA and the UK Green Building Council have welcomed the government’s latest strategy to reduce household energy emissions.
Warm Homes, Greener Homes, a new document unveiled this week, aims to cut carbon emissions from housing by 29% by 2020.
The government’s ambition is to give seven million homes an affordable eco-upgrade by 2020, potentially creating 65,000 new jobs in green housing and retrofitting.
Among the initiatives included in the report is a “pay as you save” scheme which will allow home owners to pay for new fit-outs using monthly bill savings and profits from the sale of surplus energy instead of paying up front.
