Transformed building will become photographer’s studio

Originate Architects has won planning and listed building consent to transform the grade II listed former LCC Tramways substation in Camden Town.

The north London landmark on Arlington Road is to become the studio and production office for an unnamed fashion photographer. It will provide 650sq m of space, with a reception, studio, café, production office and editing suites.

Originate plans to retain and restore all the original features of the 1908 building, including a working crane. The architect spent a year negotiating with planners on the refurbishment.

Gordon Leney at Originate said: “After working for so long with both our client and the London Borough of Camden in a sensitive planning process, we are very excited that we are finally able to breathe new life into this important piece of London heritage and give it significance for years to come.”
