Fletcher Priest Architects’ new cinema in Hackney, east London, has opened to the public.
The Picturehouse Hackney, part of the national Picturehouse chain, is a conversion of the former Ocean music venue on Mare Street into a 4,000sq m cinema with four screens, a café, bar and facilities for community organisations.
Mareike Langkitsch, project architect, said: “We have aimed to reuse and rethink as many of the existing spaces and materials as possible. This has included removing recent side balconies to achieve a large screen in the former main concert space.”
