How refreshing to see a building that combines care, sophistication and good neighbourliness (Lyric Theatre, Belfast Buildings June 17).

It is ordinary in many ways but also extraordinary; carefully sited and responsive to its surroundings but also a distinguished presence.

It demonstrates the “kind of meticulous attention to detail that makes it hard to believe this was a design and build contract”, but also shows how a competition win in 2003 that starts on site in 2009 gives time to draw each detail. O’Donnell and Tuomey are architects to their fingertips.
