Marks Barfield Architects to design ‘landmark building’ that will hold 1,000 people and feature a kitchen, cafe and garden

Marks Barfield Architects has submitted plans for a new mosque in Cambridge.

The architect behind the London Eye has proposed an “eco-mosque” which visitors enter through a garden into a covered portico and atrium.

Tim Winter, chairman of the Muslim Academic Trust, said: “Our hope is that this will become a landmark building which will inject new life into the Romsey area of Cambridge.”

The building will hold up to 1,000 people and features a kitchen and café, teaching rooms, two residential units and an underground car park for 80 vehicles.
