The Ash Sakula co-founder picks Lina Bo Bardi’s thrilling Brazilian cultural hub for #BD50Wonders

Wonder: SESC Pompéia, Sao Paulo

Architect: Lina Bo Bardi, 1977-86

Nominator: Robert Sakula, Ash Sakula

I loved Lina Bo Bardi decades before ever seeing any of her work, so I went to the beautiful and surprising city of Sao Paulo ready to be ravished by the great heroine, and I was. She has a magnificent trio of works there, best of all being SESC Pompéia, a community and cultural centre where 80-year-olds dance with abandon and everyone looks beautiful bathed in a flattering light: a place of grand scale and intimate corners.
