Chipperfield, Hadid and DRDH shortlisted for Lubetkin Prize replacement
British architects make up half the shortlist for the RIBA’s inaugural international award.
The prize has been relaunched after the RIBA dropped the Lubetkin Prize last year which had been going for eight years.
The British practices in the running are David Chipperfield Architects’ Museo Jumex in Mexico’s capital Mexico City; Stormen Concert Hall in Bodø, Norway, by DRDH, and Zaha Hadid Architects’ Heydar Aliyev Centre at Baku in Azerbaijan.
The other schemes shortlisted are a war memorial in France by Agence d’Architecture Philippe Prost; an arts complex in the Azores by Portuguese firm Menos é Mais and Grafton Architects’ college building in Peru’s capital Lima.
All six finalists will now be visited by the prize’s grand jury which includes chair Richard Rogers, US architect Billie Tsien and NLÉ founder Kunlé Adeyemi. The winner will be announced in December.
