I have written this to encourage debate and not to “have a go” at this or any particular government or politicians. They have a tough job and need our help and support to deliver a larger number and range of homes to suit all levels of affordability.

For 29 years at Argent and now at British Land I have been privileged to be involved in some significant development projects which have brought me into contact with senior politicians and policy makers.

As the year 2000 dawned, as chief executive of Argent Group my “year ahead” note to colleagues stated: “By the end of the decade Argent will be delivering as much housing as commercial space.”
