In this age of austerity it would be more economical for the public and for architects if the RIBA was entrusted with the responsibility of keeping the Register of Architects and regulating use of the title “architect” (News February 15).

This would reduce confusion over who is the responsible body for the profession among clients and the public.

An RIBA register would be clearer

If the RIBA’s role is to promote architecture, why on earth would Angela Brady object to Arb “flying the flag for architects”? (News February 15). Could this defensive position indicate the failings of the RIBA? As a practising architect, I’d like everyone to promote architects and architecture.

When most of the population don’t know what the word “architect” means, I think the RIBA has more serious business than to split hairs with Arb over the meaning of “registrant” and “member”.
