Dar SSH International engineering
2012 rank: 97
Country: Kuwait
Last rank: 52
Architects employed: 85
Kuwaiti practice Dar SSH International Engineering marked its golden anniversary by losing nearly 100 architects.
This was partly due to the completion of its contract project but mainly because so many projects were indefinitely suspended because of the global financial turmoil.
But SSH still has some big projects on its books including the $1.78 billion infrastructure and landscape design for Sabah Al Salem University in Shadadiya, Kuwait.
Other key projects include the $99.3 million 59-storey United Tower in Sharq, Kuwait City’s financial centre, which completed last year, and the $540 million Oman convention, exhibition and hotel development, which is in the design phase.
Most of the practice’s work is in Kuwait, though it has offices in Oman and Abu Dhabi. It is already talking of opening an office in Libya this year, as well as studios in Qatar and Saudi.
