BVN

It’s the first time in the Top 100 for this Australian firm which can trace its roots back 75 years.

In 2009 it changed its name from Bligh Voller Nield to BVN Architecture and last year followed this with a series of appointments and promotions. It also restructured, downgrading its Canberra studio into a project office and concentrating its work in the remaining three: Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Last year its key projects included Kingston Library in Canberra, a landmark national support office for retail giant Myer in central Melbourne, a private house for an art collector in Queensland, and the Mawson Laboratories refurb for the University of Adelaide.

This year it is working on some significant schemes such as the athletes’ villages for the London Olympics, the 2018 Commonwealth Games eco-village on Queensland’s Gold Coast, and the masterplan for the £3 billion redevelopment of the Royal National Agricultural & Industrial Association of Queensland’s showgrounds.

The Goods Shed North, a joint project in Melbourne’s Docklands to transform a derelict 1889 railway shed, won nine awards last year.
