Architect FaulknerBrowns has won planning consent for a new swimming pool in Osmaston, Derby.

The new swimming and leisure complex for Derby council will cater for casual swimmers, learners’ clubs and competition events. It is expected to be completed in 2020.

Planning consultancy Turley secured the approval for the build which will be carried out by Mace. FaulknersBrown will lead on design.

The state-of-the-art facility, designed in step with its wider parkland setting, will include a 10-lane 50m swimming pool, a family area and a learner pool. Alongside water spaces it will also feature a gym, fitness studios, sauna and steam rooms and a hospitality space.

Councillor Baggy Shanker, cabinet member leading on the pool, said: “This will be a game changer for swimming in Derby. Our investment in the city will ensure Derby continues to be a great place to live, work and visit.”

Associate director at Turley Fran Rowley said: “We pride ourselves on helping to shape better places and sport plays a big part in this through associated health, wellbeing and leisure benefits. With a spotlight on the Midlands in 2022 for the Commonwealth Games, it is exciting to see new facilities like these which will support grassroots teams and individuals in our area.”
