Scheme has £1.2bn pricetag

Work on a new US hospital designed by Fosters & Partners has begun.

The $1.5 billion (£1.2 billion) scheme for the University of Pennsylvania is being built on the former site of Penn Tower in Philadelphia.

The Pavilion on Penn Medicine’s West Philadelphia campus will include 500 private patient rooms and 47 operating rooms in a 1.5 million sq m, 16-storey facility. It will also house in-patient care for cancer, heart and vascular medicine and surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, as well as a new accident and emergency department.
