Developer secures £165m to kickstart construction
Work on Sheppard Robson’s Barts Square in the City of London’s Smithfield Conservation Area has begun after the developer wrapped up a funding deal.
Helical Bar has secured a £165 million finance package with HSBC paving the way for work to begin on phase one of the scheme which features 144 residential units, office accommodation plus retail and restaurant space.
Sheppard Robson brought in Piercy & Co and Maccreanor Lavington to design elevations for three of the buildings at the site near Barbican. Maccreanor Lavington’s residential site sits between Bartholomew Close and Church Garth and is flanked by one of Piercy & Co’s buildings.
The overall scheme will feature 236 apartments, along with 23,000sq m of office space and 2,300sq m of retail and restaurant space.
Helical Bar is developing the scheme in joint venture with US developer Baupost Group on land previously owned by St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
