Rem Koolhaas’s practice beats Nouvel, Rogers and Foster

OMA has won a competition to design a convention centre in Toulouse with a 40,000sq m column-free exhibition hall.

The winning entry - led by the director of OMA*AMO France, Clément Blanchet - was shortlisted with French firms Valode & Pistre and Atelier Portzamparc but the original entrants included Jean Nouvel, Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners and Foster & Partners.

The 338,000sq m Parc des Expositions (PEX), located in a new innovation district, is intended to be a gateway to the city and will host conferences, concerts and exhibitions.

It is designed to be a compact mini-city, an “antidote” to the sprawl of similar parks, said the architect.
