New building will include restaurant and retail

A hotel scheme by Stephan Reinke Architects that will be built close to St Paul’s Cathedral has been given planning.

The work in the City of London will see a seven-storey building replace existing buildings at 3-5 Ludgate Hill which were remodelled back in the late 1980s.

The new building will run across 7,700sq m and will include 132 rooms as well as restaurant and retail space.

Nearby residents told City of London planners that the building would result in the loss of daylight into their homes.

But planning officers said the scheme would preserve the character of the St Paul’s Cathedral conservation area.

The scheme still needs approval from the cathedral who hold power to approve schemes within its vicinity. In a letter posted on the City’s planning website, the cathedral said the advice it had received was to grant conditional approval.

Developer on the project is investment group Dominvs.
