Broadway Malyan has completed the concept masterplan for the 17sq km extension of Sadr City, a suburb of Baghdad built in 1959.
The 10x10 project – which will involve the creation of New Sadr City for 500,000 people – is named after its predicted $10bn value and the 10 years it will take to complete.
It is one of the biggest new developments in Iraq and is described as central to the country’s reconstruction.
Broadway Malyan won a competition for the masterplan in 2009. Director John Turner said it had worked closely with the mayoralty of Baghdad to deliver a concept masterplan, detailed sector masterplans and UK training for members of the client team.
