£280 million project could also include offices, hotel and health club

Plans drawn up by Woodward Smith Architects for a 250-home Passivhaus development outside Barnstable have been submitted to North Devon Council.

The £280 million Mount Sandford Green Innovation Park is being backed by the North Devon-based Loosemore Chartered Building Company.

Plans for the 12ha site near the A361 also include offices, manufacturing uses, conference facilities, a lecture theatre, a hotel, a health club and a food outlet.

A statement from Woodward Smith said the vision for the scheme was “an iconic Passivhaus accredited, high quality, innovation park”.

The practice added that the idea for the project was borne from a prototype Passivhaus home which was displayed back in 2008.

The project would create “a high quality built setting where the natural environment works hand in hand with the latest in renewable technology,” it said.
