Work on TAD's hospice extension underway
25 November, 2009
Work has begun on Sheffield practice TAD's £2 million hospice extension in Rotherham.
The firm, which designed the original eight-bed hospice in 1995, was commissioned to deliver an additional 14 in-patient rooms, 10 of them in the new building.
The split-level brick and steel building, with cedar cladding and a curved Kalzip roof, wraps around the existing building to create an open courtyard.
Peter Allan, a director at TAD, said: “It’s a prominent site in Rotherham on the edge of a huge expanse of land. The new building won’t be conspicuous from the road but will be much more visible from the playing fields.
“The building is designed to be sympathetic in scale to the existing hospice, with the mass and scale of the roof following a similar line.”
The work is due to be finished by autumn next year.
