Brits score in Iraq pitch

3 July, 2009

Jordan & Bateman Architects has been selected by the Iraqi minister of youth and sport to design a 65,000-seat stadium in Basra

The London-based practice is part of a British consortium led by Harlow International and including environmental engineer Atelier Ten and landscaper David Jarvis Associates. It beat seven bids, including one from Iraq.

Jordan & Bateman specialises in embassies and high commissions, completing the British embassy in Doha, Qatar, last December.

The stadium will host games in the 2013 Gulf Cup of Nations, a bi-annual football tournament between the region’s teams.
