Comment

It isn't about money. It's about the cultural meaning of buildings, and their perceived significance. We wouldn't think of demolishing (say) Blenheim Palace (for all that it's a repugnant reminder of aristocratic arrogance and monarchic corruption). Preston Bus Station, on the other hand, was not procured as the result of a great military victory and its architect was not having an affair with the Queen (so far as we know).
