@Munter - assuming this is the UK, given you've rendered the building, personally I think I'd have externally insulated to have the thermal mass of the building within the insulation to help retain a stable temperature (far less diurnal change than Spain, no ambition to harvest the heat of the sun at night). But I'm certainly no expert on this stuff.
