As much as I respect Niemeyer's work and his presence in modernist architecture in Brazil - specially in Rio de Janeiro school of architecture - to say that his presence is dominant among Brazilian generations of architects is going too far. Not only the country is big enough to host several different expressions of architecture - from the concrete-industrial abstractions of the school of São Paulo to the context sensibilities of the Minas Gerais group of young architects, Brazil has much more to offer. Perhaps the problem is how biased opinons about Brazilian architecture is - either internationally spread or locally taken for granted.
