From what I overheard while visiting at the weekend, it seems that the genius and simplicity was lost even on some of the archiphiles... "Is this it? It's just a garden with a corridor around it", "This is well not as good as last year's by Norman Foster(?), it had all those crazy shapes" "I can't believe it's just a box. I thought Zumthor was a well better architect than this" etc from some archi-studenty-types.

Seems a lot of people just don't get Zumthor's approach - they're unfamiliar with thoughtful tactile experiential spaces, and unable to appreciate his careful handling of light, shade and materials. Sadly the fashion for formal gymnastics and image-byte architecture has brainwashed many, even those who really should know better.
