John - you are correct I have no clue about the site and it's context - mearly commenting on the architect's description.
Surrounded by some of the best examples of Georgian architecture daily, I am even more disappointed that this is the best the architect could design if the building is located as you note: no contextual reference, no hierchy of scale, no elevational proportion, no reinvention of the classical orders of architecture at all. Just a big ugly lump with a pointy red fin.
I'm depressed all over again!
Also, your "anything's better than what's there before" arguement is not good enough in my opinion.
