I don't think it is in any way a 'calamitous failure of urbanism'. In my view London takes too much care over its Victorian heritage without remembering enough what the Victorian ethos was all about. They were do-ers and set about ambitiously remaking the city. That energy is what makes London what it is today. By trying to preserve what was appropriate 100+ years ago, we are not doing justice to their energy and spirit. This project may be far from perfect, but I admire its ambition and courage. It take risks and adds buzz to the Tottenham Court Road area - a quarter in grave need of some new vibrancy. Another chic gray steel and glass scheme is not what the area needs or deserves.
