Unfortunately you discredit all of us in Edinburgh by making this a personal issue, even those of us who are out and out modernists and are asolutely resistant to Unesco and the "conservation mafia" It is not the height that is a problem, it is that the hotel building is a brute. All efforts to minimise its impact by creation the eliptical shape have failed miserably, despite the flying roof. This is not the building to challenge the attitudes of people like Ian Begg
