Planners approve Sanei Hopkins Derbyshire house

Couple ran competition to choose designers

Sanei Hopkins has been given the go-ahead for a new family home in the Peak District.

The London practice won a competition, organized by the owners of the property, in May 2009 to design the property in Baslow in the Derwent Valley.

A planning application was submitted last August by a team which also includes Elliott Wood Partnership and Max Fordham.

The 900 sq m timber structured house has been designed with locally-quarried stone as a rainscreen on the outside to blend in with the surrounding landscape.

  • I wonder - can a single house for a single family amounting to 900 sqm - say 5 times the size of a standard 4 bedroom house - ever be said to be environmentally justified? I realise this isn't targeted in the article but I bet the D+A Statement went on at length about sustainability...
