Tottenham report calls for regeneration body
London mayor says recommendation “compelling”
A report on how to transform Tottenham after last year’s riots has said an independent body should be set up to oversee regeneration.
The Independent Panel on Tottenham unveiled its report, called ‘It Took Another Riot’, this week and made 10 recommendations including improving transport and housing, creating a better public realm and opening more leisure facilities such as cinemas and music venues.
Panel chairman Stuart Lipton said its proposals will “create real change for the community producing growth and social change”.
The Chelsfield head was asked by London mayor Boris Johnson to lead the panel last December. Johnson said: “The idea of a new organisation to help drive forward last change in Tottenham is particularly compelling and one that I will be looking at closely.”
