Studio Weave and Mesh Partnership have won a competition to design a new public space in Blackburn, with a proposal for a “secret garden”

The scheme is part of the Pennine Lancashire Squared competition, chaired by Stirling prize winner Stephen Hodder and commissioned by regeneration agency Elevate, which aims to find designs for six public spaces in six towns in the Pennine area.

The four other practices on the shortlist included Niall McLaughlin Architects with Dan Pearson Studio, Landscape Projects, Okra, and Scott Wilson with 172 Architects.

Separately, Landscape Projects won for a public space in Accrington, and Civic Architects with Colour: Urban Design for Burnley.
