Massive scheme in east London masterplanned by Fletcher Priest

The team behind plans to transform the Silvertown Quays area of east London has released new images of what it will look like when work is finished.

Fletcher Priest has masterplanned the scheme with other practices working on it including AHMM, Allies and Morrison, Stanton Williams, Eric Parry and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

The Silvertown Partnership consortium which is behind the £3.5 billion overhaul is headed by Stuart Lipton and comprises Chelsfield, First Base and Macquarie Capital.

The scheme was given final planning approval just before Christmas by London mayor Boris Johnson.

Plans include building a bridge to connect the site with the Crossrail station at Custom House, restoring the former Millennium Mills flour mill and providing cafes, restaurants, commercial and community buildings.

The art deco flour mill was last used in the 1980s and is the last disused flour mill on the Thames. The scheme will also include 3,000 homes.

  • What the.....?
"scheme was given final planning approval just before Christmas"
Clearly the CGI artist put in all the 'extras' the day after the Christmas party!
Never seen so much superfluous nonsense in one image (the middle one especially)

  • Disneyland-on-Thames. The architects obviously have absolutely no confidence in their crappy efforts.

And it seems that there is only one non "white" resident in this part of London (if the LSD inspired CGI's are to be believed) -hardly the demographic that the average London visitor experiences -but then again if it is all inspired by psychedelia/ visualised by the office crack head I suppose any alternate reality goes?

  • On the third image the curvy roof bit on top of the building on the right looks like Napoleon's hat. Ridiculous.

  • What a dreadful mish-mash. really very depressing. Is this really the best that that "bunch of architects" - supposedly the cream of the UK profession - could come up with? Take all the floating flim-flam and party decorations out you have something very ordinary and sadly very predictable. 4/10

These CGIs may seem hilarious on the face of it, but I'm willing to bet that the mayor of Newham will just love them, as will his design review panel. Which is the whole point.

  • The whole place had so much promise, and now this. Is it an airship landing base?
