Tower is first to be completed by British architect in Thailand

Amanda Levete’s practice AL_A has completed a 37-storey tower in Thailand’s capital Bangkok.

Called Central Embassy, the scheme has been built in the former grounds of the British Embassy on the city’s Ploenchit Road and will include a 27-storey Hyatt hotel as well as seven storeys of retail.

It will run across 140,000sq m and features an exterior clad in 300,000 aluminium tiles, each with two surfaces to reflect both the city and the sky. Client on the scheme is Bangkok retailer Central Group.

Another high-profile Levete scheme is due to open at the end of next month with the firm’s work at the V&A museum including a new 1,500sq m underground gallery at the site in Kensington along with an open-air courtyard and new entrance from Exhibition Road.
