Exeter project adds restaurants, cinema and sports centre

Chapman Taylor’s plans for a £75 million extension to a Devon shopping centre it helped design more than 10 years ago have been OK’d.

The scheme will expand the Princesshay development, which was designed by Chapman Tayor along with Panter Hudspith and Wilkinson Eyre and which opened back in 2007.

The development occupies the site of the current bus and coach station and extends Princesshay’s mix of uses by including retail, restaurants, cinema and a wet sports centre to be delivered by the council, all masterplanned around a new amphitheatre.

The Princesshay Partnership, which includes the Crown Estate and TH Real Estate, held a series of public consultations over the summer last year to garner local community support.

Construction will start next year.

  • It's a shame Panter Hudspith weren't asked to design the extension - their designs at the existing shopping centre are far superior to the image used in this article.
