British Council, RIBA and Foster’s backing competition

The British Council, the RIBA and Foster & Partners are inviting UK architects to land the chance to win a week-long design residency in Doha, Qatar.

The Unlimited Doha Design Prize aims to build international links between the UK and the Gulf and is open to architects, urban designers, engineers, 3D designers, technologists and researchers.

During the week, 20 participants – 10 from the Gulf and 10 from the UK – will work collaboratively in teams to share skills and research.

The British Council’s director for architecture, design and fashion Vicky Richardson said: “We hope that this intensive collaborative process creates new opportunities and supports the exchange of knowledge; as well as contributing real, workable ideas to the future of the city of Doha which will last much longer than a one-week residency.

At the end of the residency, which will take place March18-26, a winning team will be awarded a grant of £15,000 to allow the architects to further develop the project proposal as a team.

Participants will be selected by a team of judges including those from the British Council, Foster’s, Makower Architects, Qatar Museums, Qatar University and the RIBA.

Applications will remain open until 28 February and successful shortlisted applicants will be announced on March 2. More details here.
