Construction output falls again
Public housing sees biggest decline
Data released today shows construction output in the three months to October was down 9.7% compared to the same period last year.
The figures from the Office for National Statistics showed the biggest fall was in public housing, with output down by more than a fifth.
David Crosthwaite, an economist at Aecom, said: “It appears that one way of arresting the continuing decline in construction output would be for the government to bring forward any public sector investment plans as a matter of urgency.
“Construction is an important part of the UK economy as a whole, providing the facilities that we all need to be productive.”
Meanwhile, output for October was up 8.3% compared to the previous month.
