20-storey glass tower due to complete next year

Broadway Malyan has designed a 20-storey office in Dubai for HSBC to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the bank’s arrival in the emirate.

The building is a collaboration between the architect’s Abu Dhabi and Lisbon studios, led by David Whitehead in Lisbon.

Work is due to start shortly and when it completes in 2017, 16 storeys of offices will sit above four storeys of car parking.

HSBC, which as the Imperial Bank was the first bank to open an office in Dubai in 1946, will move in the following year.

8a Downtown Dubai, as it will be called, will aim for LEED gold certification.

  • For once, Broadway Malyan's work looks completely at home. If only they did all their work in Dubai.
