Practice says £7.6m office building contributes to ‘quality and legibility’ of its modernist new-town surroundings

Broadway Malyan has completed a four-storey office building in Milton Keynes’ business district that it says celebrates the new town’s architectural heritage.

The £7.6m block on Avebury Boulevard, designed for Frontier Estates and set to be occupied by accountancy firm Grant Thornton, offers 4,450sq m of new floor space split across two wings.

Broadway Malyan said each of Victoria House’s wings was constructed with buff multi-facing brick, combined with precast concrete used for its string courses and ground floor colonnade “to articulate a regular and simple grid configuration”.

The practice said the scheme’s design “blends commercial viability with architectural integrity” and respected central Milton Keynes’ exacting urban design requirements, as set out in the borough’s development framework.

It said the document “admirably upholds and celebrates CMK’s genius loci” – or presiding spirit, and that Victoria House did the same.

According to Broadway Malyan, Victoria House is central Milton Keynes’ first new stand-alone office block for seven years.
