Jestico & Whiles restore and modernise the facilites in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Jestico & Whiles has started work on the overhaul of the British Council’s headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The existing villa will be restored and modernised and a new extension will include a library built on a raised deck with an elliptical stairway connecting the floors.
Beneath the library two smaller, contrasting pavilions will be created – one featuring a multi-purpose hall, the other for customer services.
James Tatham, associate director at Jestico + Whiles said: “Indigenous forms and influences have been incorporated and reinterpreted to provide a clean, contemporary building, which we believe captures the UK’s innovation and design skills, whilst sitting comfortably within the architectural, cultural and climatic context of the site.”
