Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture completes $40,000 shipping container house
Clients build Costa Rican home themselves
London-based Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture has completed a private residence built of two shipping containers in Costa Rica.
The project, ‘Containers of Hope’, was built 20 minutes outside of San Jose with construction carried out by clients Marco Peralta and Gabriela Calvo themselves.
The metal walls were cut to create windows and to link them together with the resulting scrap metal then used to create a roof between the two that allows for constant cross ventilation to cope with the tropical climate.
The final cost of the house was just $40,000, lower than the cost of social housing provided for the poor in the country.
