Modern country home sails through committee

Baca Architects has received planning permission for a 21st century English country house, designed for a couple that won £45 million in the lottery.

Nottingham’s planning committee voted 12 to one in favour of the design, which includes four hubs set in a circular shape around a central pool and courtyard.

Each section is connected by a half-storey of steps to create a free-flowing plan, reminiscent of the linear sequence of formal and private rooms set in the wings of 18th century houses.

As well as a snooker room, cinema, staff quarters and swimming pool, it includes a rain-water waterfall with a ten-space car garage behind it.

  • Being able to get the propsed address from the planning portal, it is probably not the best idea to promote themselves as £45 million lottery winners. Hope they got a good security system planned

  • You've obviously never tried to use Nottingham's planning site, BH.

  • I bet this one ends with a disciplinary hearing in front of ARB when the client finds out how much it's going to cost, how long it's going to take, and how little the end product resembles the CGIs. All the lottery money gone !

  • This building looks like someone has swatted an enormous fly.
