Architects' desks: Nicholas Burwell, director at Burwell Deakins Architects
BD takes a look at the workspaces of architects
Nicholas Burwell said: “Architecture is about making and creating and I believe that the media that one works in will, at some level, affect the design that emerges.
“This is why I make sure that I have space to move between hand drawing, physical modelling and my computer. Each working method offers different insights into the spatial and constructional techniques that are appropriate to individual projects. I try to make models as an integral part of the design process, often without having any drawings to base them upon, and not simply as a presentational tool.
“This, combined with my low boredom threshold for tiding up, is why my desk is, on occasions a bit of a mess!”
