Aecom draws up landscape proposals for Russia’s Silicon Valley
Landscape study for Skolkovo Innovation Centre
Aecom has undertaken a preliminary landscape study for the Skolkovo Innovation Centre, a 460ha high-technology business complex on the western edge of Moscow.
The Innovation Centre, funded by the Skolkovo Foundation, hopes to stimulate the development of pioneering projects and technologies in biomedicine, energy, nuclear power and space technologies.
Aecom has designed a proposal for Skolkovo’s external environment, enhancing the existing topography into eight individual cluster zones with different characters.
These include a plant nursery, a children’s park and the more imaginatively named ‘Valley of Experimentation’ and ‘The Pleasure Grounds’. The landscape design aims to support the aspirations of the building complex by ensuring the landscape is an expression of the character of the Innovation Centre.
Alexandra Steed, Aecom’s senior director of landscape architecture, Europe, said: “Our landscape proposals are commensurate with the world-class ambitions of Skolkovo and provide a stimulating and creative climate to enable individuals and companies to flourish.”
