New life for Abu Dhabi cultural projects
Norman Foster and Frank Gehry to speak at Abu Dhabi Art about their museums
Abu Dhabi has invited three of the world’s top architects, who are all working on projects on Saadiyat Island, to speak at the country’s international art fair next week.
Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel and Frank Gehry will all speak at Abu Dhabi art about the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum respectively in a talk called ‘Birthing of Skylines’.
Last year delays were announced on all of these projects.
Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, told the Art Newspaper: “It’s symbolic that these three architects are speaking together in the Saadiyat Cultural District as the museums they designed are being realised around them.”
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is now set to open in 2017, the Louvre Abu Dhabi in 2015 and the Zayed National Museum in 2016.
Meanwhile, the UAE Pavilion at Abu Dhabi Art has been designed by Foster & Partners. The structure’s 30,000 components were shipped over from Shanghai, where the pavilion was exhibited at the Expo 2010.
