  • Comment on: BD online is changing

    JOHN EYNON's comment | 21 September 2010 11:47 am

    hi there
not surprised by the comments but also not surprised by amanda's letter. lets faceit , all information comes at a price, and the internet has been living on borrowed time (or money!) since it started . someone has to pay to create, publish , host and update all this stuff? i'm sorry, perhaps its the internet fairies that keep it all going! i appreciate all the comments but I would rather pay the cost of a sunday paper evey week to maintain the content and keep this going.

BD for me has always been a must read, and unless it changes radically will continue to be so.

    good luck!

  • Comment on: Jane Duncan named new RIBA president

    JOHN EYNON's comment | 24 July 2014 8:28 pm

It's really hard to know what to say......clearly only a few really care about this anyway. I am full of admiration for anyone who wants to stand for any office and put the work in.

Whither the RIBA? The times are a changing, I think it unlikely the architect will ever again be "god" particularly the way procurement trends have gone over the last few ways. I think the RIBA still hasn't come to terms with this.

Isn't it time to just stop? Take time out and just revaluate everything including education and the place of the architect in industry and society.

Otherwise to mix my metaphors we will just continue to rearrange the deck chairs and go the way of the dinosaurs and the meteorite.
On this particular issue unfortunately I'm not hopeful!

perhaps this should be the subject of a design competition for Christmas, with all entry fees going to Shelter. how about it BD?

  • Comment on: RICS launches first global BIM kitemark

    JOHN EYNON's comment | 18 October 2013 6:54 pm

It will be interesting to see who the expert assessors are! After all, who checks the checkers? Will they have been through an assessment process? Wheels within wheels...but fairplay to the RICS for taking a lead on this. Certification and validation will become a big issue, we haven't got our heads round it yet.

  • Comment on: RIBA to consider 'every option' as it launches radical review of education

    JOHN EYNON's comment | 14 December 2013 10:38 am

this review is long overdue but the questions are whether it is going to happen quickly enough and also will it be radical enough to create the step change that is required. judging by the composition of the panel I have my doubts.

the pace of change is accelerating in the industry, architects have conceded a lot of ground and respect over the last few decades. most architects are underestimating the impact of the digital environment upon their role and the professions. it is time leadership really stood up to be counted on this both for those in the profession, and those seeking to become architects. otherwise i fear the writing is on the wall, and within a generation the landscape could be very very different.
